this was my first continuity task where i had to film from lots of different angles and make the film flow and edit it so it wasn't jolty... this was my final peice :)

FILMING :) x

Two weeks ago..we started the filming. I think we had all forgotten how long it takes to film a short clip of film! this was shown by the fact that we expected to of shot our whole movie in the space of 2 hours, but quickly reaslises it took us this 2 hours to flim the first 10 seconds of the film... literally! Despite this, we had a lot of fun, as well as working hard filming.

We needed to set the camera and tripod up at the exact point where the camera would merge through the door. This is us attempting it!

Last week was the week we did most of the filming downstairs, the zooming onto jess' face..the view from outside the house, looking into the window and seeing Jess
.
It took us a while to get set up and to get into the swing of things again, but after a few takes we were on a roll! We filmed the shots a few different ways so we had a choice when it came to digitalising and editing our film.

very interesting stuff :)

Box office on the move comes to the iPod and iPhone
‘Insanely great’ is the punchy epithet applied by author Steven Levy to describe the development and rise of the Apple Mac computer. After initial success there followed a period of waning fortunes in the late 1990s, until the iMac turned around the iconic company’s performance. But it was the development of iTunes and the iPod that had a truly transformative effect, not just on Apple’s stock price but also on the way we buy and listen to recorded music. As a result the music business has changed forever.
The iPod has since developed into an interactive multi-media centre, able to screen films and TV shows, and the iPod Touch and iPhone variants also allow users to surf the internet. Organising and playing back music is just one of many features of new generation iPods, and there is now a burgeoning interest in ‘apps’, little software add-ons that allow users to play games, check stock prices, keep up to date with social networks and so on. And now, thanks to Rentrak, users can also track box office figures in the US and internationally through their iPod Touch or iPhone.
Rentrak is offering the service through its first consumer applications, known as
FilmScope and FilmScope WorldWide.
According to Rentrak’s
press release, FilmScope ‘will provide film enthusiasts with top line U.S. domestic box office results and expanded film information, [while] FilmScope Worldwide will offer an international perspective with box office intelligence on multiple international territories, all of which was previously only available to Rentrak subscribers.’
And there’s more: you can also use the Rentrak database to search for film information, by actor, title or director, alongside a calendar feature that provides a schedule of upcoming film releases. The service also allows users to book tickets for theatrical screenings and consult film reviews (although I’m not sure if this is available outside the US). It’s basically IMDb on the move, with the added bonus of up to date boffo numbers.
Here’s what Ron Giambra, Renrak’s executive vice president of theatrical, has to say: "Film fans have never been able to access this level of detailed information so quickly, all by using FilmScope. FilmScope allows iPhone and iPod Touch consumers a fun and comprehensive way to find out everything they ever wanted to know about new and previously released movies and the actors, directors and studios behind them."
The launch of this service comes a few weeks after
Webalo revealed it had entered into a deal with Lionsgate to make market intelligence data available to executives via their smartphones. That was a business-to-business application, which simply took a company’s existing data and fed it to remote handsets whenever someone needed the information.
The Rentrak service is aimed at consumers, and provides access to the company’s box office data. You’d probably expect to pay a premium for such a privilege. Not so. FilmScope services are available for a one-off fee of £2.99 ($4.99) for U.S. domestic box office information and £5.99 ($9.99) for FilmScope Worldwide. That’s less than the cost of a cinema ticket in the West End. And there’s absolutely no subscription charge.
What an insanely great idea.

=O

O my gosh
i'm actually really freaked out!
okay so i was on youtube searching 'john terry' (because i'm like his biggest fan)
and came across a really disturbing video of a Saudi Arabian football game in which a player took a kick in the head and, in my opinion, had a seizure...
watch it and see what you think

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=MU3VMuEAxY0

this freaked me out quite a bit so i decided to search it and he didn't die, infact he played the next game. there are many forums and blogs discussing this topic and some people believe he had spazms as the part of his head that got hit was very sensitive... other people believe it was a religious experience...

his name is Abdulrahman Al-Shoaibi if you want to research it yourself. x

OOOOO

i just found the scary ringtone from "one missed call" which would work really well with our idea...
:)
http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=LBkMjeQZ0lg&feature=related

Idea number 2 (: x

as i have said in the post before this one, it would be quite hard to go ahead with the first idea we had...
so we had a discussion about our next idea...
i came up with this idea and told the rest of my group as it was inspired by a creepy film i had watched recently called "when a stranger calls" (a remake of the same film from 1975)
This film really scared me as i regulary babysit and can imagne ths happening :
i like the way there is so much suspense in the movie, this is mostl created by long silences and tension building music..
this is the link to the trailer of the film...

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=f5DaPc5Yi6s

in the trailer we especially liked the beginning scene where the camera closes up on the phone and quickly flashes to the girl screaming and flashes back to the phone, this is scary so could shock our audience, however, we were talking about it and our plot was very similar to the film so we need to expand and think of other ideas to include in our 2 minute movie...

when i was at home i was researching 'media studies projects' on youtube, it came up with many films but one caught my eye called 'paranoia' it was really scary and sinister and looked like a homemade movie which made it more scary for me.. the was a sectin in the film where the camera was at the point of view of a girl running through a graveyard at night.. this was really effective and got me thinking this could be used in both our ideas.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=N8BaiHe72No

another inspiration for our second idea was from the trailer "one missed call"...
this was because it included a sinister phone call in which the recievers death was recorded on a voicemail. at the beginnng of the trailer there is also a close up of a phone and two girls in the background, the girls then become blurred as there is a sharp focus on the mobile phone. The phone then rings and th ringtone is very eery and sinister which sets the mood of the film.

http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=V3Va7AisQ4U

so our second idea is basically :

we have decided to base it on a teenage girl who is babysitting a small child...
The clip will start with a black, blank screen with an underpinning of a phone ringing. There will then be a close-up shot of a telephone...
The girl answers the phone and says "Hello? ......Yes he’s fine….. Ok……Bye” (as if she's talkng to the parents who are checking up on the little boy) and she puts the receiver down.
The camera will then show the girl reading a magazine (and acting normal like with the t.v on etc).
The phone rings again. Close-up of the girl’s face *silent for 3 seconds* some creepy voice on the other side of the phone says “Is everything alright...?” she seems a bit freaked out so has a puzzled face.
she says “Yeah…. Who is this?”*phone hangs up* BEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
The girl is slightly freaked out but goes to check on the little boy, he is sleeping in his bed and she walks over to the window and looks out before closing the blinds.
She walks back downstairs and sits down to watch the TV (just thinking the scary voice got the wrong number)...
After a couple of minutes the girl gets up and goes to the kitchen to get a snack. Suddenly the TV turns off and the phone rings. *silent for 3 seconds*“Are you sure everything is alright?” (scary voice again) she replys “Who is this?!?!” he says “You need to check again”*Phone hangs up* BEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
The girl quickly goes upstairs and checks on the boy again. He is fine sleeping in bed. She walks back downstairs and the phone rings again.*silent for 3 seconds*“If everything is alright then why are your hands shaking?” “WHO IS THIS!!!?”*deep breathing*360 degree turn, camera goes one way, girl turns the other way *camera slightly down, sense of power from the "intruder" *180 degree turn then the girl looks past the camera, with “PURE FEAR” right across her face.
OR [slightly different ending] After the 360 degree turn, her phone rings again, and the camera just focuses on the words "Unknown caller" on the mobile... then it fades out into blackness again...with the phone ringing.
OR [another slightly different ending] she rings the police and they say they'll track the phone number down.. they ring her back shes in hysterics and the police tell her to get out the house as fast as possible as the phone call is coming from inside the house : BOOM BOOM BOOOOOOM

I think the only way we could make this work is careful planning, choice of location, development of mise-en-scene, and a convincing performance from the person playing the babysitter. Therefore this could either work really well or not work at all : x

corsework...x

hiiiii :)
today in media studies, we were discussing our coursework plans and ideas...

we decided to attempt to shoot an action/thriller/suspence film...

our first idea was to have it set in the middle of a forest:
basically two girls in a broken down car, a bit panicky as hey are not sure what to do to get the car started again.
once girl tries to call their boyfriend to get some help but there is no signal (close up on the phone then her frustraed face...)
one of the girls then decides to get out of the car and open the car bonnet to see if anything is wrong, while the other girl sits in the car...
an establshng shot, shows the girl checking the front of the car and shows the audience they are stranded in the middle of a forest... you can also see that it is beginning to get darker.
It goes silent and there is a chll in the air. the girl at the front of the car shouts to the girl in the car asking her to turn the engine on... there is no reply. the camera is at an angle where you cannot see past the bonnet.
there is a close up on the girl outside the car, with a worried expression.
she slowly moves towards the passanger door to see why her friend isn't replying...
(whle this is happening we would have some suspense music playing and building up). The girl has gone (a sudden drum bang).
there is then a close up of her face as she is worried and confused and a little scared...
she wizzes around sharply and the camera follows her face which blurs the background, this would give a sense of confusion and panic... it would also make the audience lose the sense of direction.
somethng moves in the bushes and the girl screams the missing girls name... no reply... she gets out her phone to ring the other girl, but then realises the other girls phone is buzzing on the concrete next to her (close up of phone and then close up of girls panicking expression).
the girl starts to get very scared and the suspense music starts to play and build up in the background.
there are rustles of leaves and the sound of big large footsteps and the sound of a body being dragged, this time we could use a point of view shot, spnnng around as she turns to the car and jumps in it.
she is catching her breath and looking around. the car jults a little and she gasps. she locks the doors and hold the steering wheel with a sweaty grip looking around her...
the suspense music is still building up and getting louder... the doors automatically unlock and she looks horrified (close up). she frantically presses the lock button again and the camera closes up on her hand on the lock of the car and it unlocks once more, she locks it again... tears of fear and frustration roll down her face... at this point the is a close up of her hand by the lock whch includes the bottom half of the window... at the peak of the suspense music and lump of mud splatters against the window making her and the audience jump. as the mud slides down the window we realise the is noone in sight who could of thrown it...
she is breathinfg heavily and the suspense starts to regrow, she puts the key in the ignition and miraculously it works, the car is on and the lights shine forward... as she looks up she sees the other girl standing in the middle of the road about 100 metres in front, she then breaths a sigh of relief and takes the keys out of the ignton, the headlights go off. as she gets out the car she realises that the girl has gone again, she quickly jumps back in the car and lcks the door again...
she grips onto the steering wheel with fear and confusion and looks around sharply. she puts the keys in the igniton again and as the headlights come up the girl is standing in the middle of the road but 50 metres in front... suspense music is playing and the girl realises her friend is covered in blood and her eyes are glazed over... as she struggles to get the car started to drve away it stools and she panics and gets frustrated, she quicky turns the engine on again, expecting the girl to still be in the middle of the road... she looks up as the headlights come on agan for a third time and she sees shes not there. she looks around and as she turns to the right she screams as the grls face is pressed up against her window (looking like a zombie), tilting her head like a lost dog...

this was our 1st idea... we realised it wouldn't work because:

1) we can't drive
2) we will need to film it quick as it gets dark quickly so we couldnt reshoot bits as it wont look right
3) we don't have good enough actors...

however it is quite a good idea because we could
use so many different types of camera angles!
