Idea number 2 (: x

as i have said in the post before this one, it would be quite hard to go ahead with the first idea we had...
so we had a discussion about our next idea...
i came up with this idea and told the rest of my group as it was inspired by a creepy film i had watched recently called "when a stranger calls" (a remake of the same film from 1975)
This film really scared me as i regulary babysit and can imagne ths happening :
i like the way there is so much suspense in the movie, this is mostl created by long silences and tension building music..
this is the link to the trailer of the film...

in the trailer we especially liked the beginning scene where the camera closes up on the phone and quickly flashes to the girl screaming and flashes back to the phone, this is scary so could shock our audience, however, we were talking about it and our plot was very similar to the film so we need to expand and think of other ideas to include in our 2 minute movie...

when i was at home i was researching 'media studies projects' on youtube, it came up with many films but one caught my eye called 'paranoia' it was really scary and sinister and looked like a homemade movie which made it more scary for me.. the was a sectin in the film where the camera was at the point of view of a girl running through a graveyard at night.. this was really effective and got me thinking this could be used in both our ideas.

another inspiration for our second idea was from the trailer "one missed call"...
this was because it included a sinister phone call in which the recievers death was recorded on a voicemail. at the beginnng of the trailer there is also a close up of a phone and two girls in the background, the girls then become blurred as there is a sharp focus on the mobile phone. The phone then rings and th ringtone is very eery and sinister which sets the mood of the film.

so our second idea is basically :

we have decided to base it on a teenage girl who is babysitting a small child...
The clip will start with a black, blank screen with an underpinning of a phone ringing. There will then be a close-up shot of a telephone...
The girl answers the phone and says "Hello? ......Yes he’s fine….. Ok……Bye” (as if she's talkng to the parents who are checking up on the little boy) and she puts the receiver down.
The camera will then show the girl reading a magazine (and acting normal like with the t.v on etc).
The phone rings again. Close-up of the girl’s face *silent for 3 seconds* some creepy voice on the other side of the phone says “Is everything alright...?” she seems a bit freaked out so has a puzzled face.
she says “Yeah…. Who is this?”*phone hangs up* BEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
The girl is slightly freaked out but goes to check on the little boy, he is sleeping in his bed and she walks over to the window and looks out before closing the blinds.
She walks back downstairs and sits down to watch the TV (just thinking the scary voice got the wrong number)...
After a couple of minutes the girl gets up and goes to the kitchen to get a snack. Suddenly the TV turns off and the phone rings. *silent for 3 seconds*“Are you sure everything is alright?” (scary voice again) she replys “Who is this?!?!” he says “You need to check again”*Phone hangs up* BEEEEEEEEEEEEP.
The girl quickly goes upstairs and checks on the boy again. He is fine sleeping in bed. She walks back downstairs and the phone rings again.*silent for 3 seconds*“If everything is alright then why are your hands shaking?” “WHO IS THIS!!!?”*deep breathing*360 degree turn, camera goes one way, girl turns the other way *camera slightly down, sense of power from the "intruder" *180 degree turn then the girl looks past the camera, with “PURE FEAR” right across her face.
OR [slightly different ending] After the 360 degree turn, her phone rings again, and the camera just focuses on the words "Unknown caller" on the mobile... then it fades out into blackness again...with the phone ringing.
OR [another slightly different ending] she rings the police and they say they'll track the phone number down.. they ring her back shes in hysterics and the police tell her to get out the house as fast as possible as the phone call is coming from inside the house : BOOM BOOM BOOOOOOM

I think the only way we could make this work is careful planning, choice of location, development of mise-en-scene, and a convincing performance from the person playing the babysitter. Therefore this could either work really well or not work at all : x

Yep. That Paranoia trailer sure does have a scary ending.

I think you new idea may be more manageable in terms of locations.

Going back to Paranoia, think about how that team used sound effects (music, heavy breathing etc) to create a mood to accompany the visuals.

Good stuff. S
